Canon EOS C50 Cinema Camera
The Canon EOS C50 Cinema Camera combines cutting-edge video performance with still-photo versatility in a compact, hybrid-friendly design. Powered by a newly developed 7K full-frame CMOS sensor, the C50 delivers 3:2 Open Gate video at up to 4K120, raw recording up to 7K60, and high-resolution 32MP stills. Switching between dedicated photo and video modes is seamless, offering an intuitive workflow for hybrid creators. Advanced features include Dual-Pixel CMOS AF II, simultaneous 2K crop recording, Frame.io Camera-to-Cloud integration, and XC protocol support for remote operation.
A detachable top handle expands functionality with two 3-pin XLR inputs and onboard controls for convenient audio and shooting adjustments.
7K Full-Frame CMOS Sensor
The back-illuminated 7K full-frame CMOS sensor delivers low-noise images across diverse lighting conditions, unlocking over 15 stops of dynamic range. Oversampled 7K capture enhances 4K60 footage, providing more detail and flexibility in post-production.
3:2 Open Gate Recording
As the first Cinema EOS model to support 3:2 Open Gate recording, the C50 utilizes the full sensor area. This allows flexible cropping and reframing in post and is especially useful when working with anamorphic lenses.
Internal RAW & High Frame Rate Recording
Record in 7K60 Cinema RAW Light with three 12-bit modes (HQ, ST, LT) or use the XF-AVC codec in 10-bit 4:2:2 for smooth, detailed imagery. High-frame-rate capture supports up to 4K120 and 2K180, ideal for slow-motion. Additional codecs include XF-AVC S and XF-HEVC S for streamlined file management while preserving metadata.
Anamorphic De-Squeeze
The C50 offers internal anamorphic de-squeeze preview options (2x, 1.8x, 1.5x, 1.3x) for accurate on-set monitoring when shooting anamorphic footage.
Dual-Base ISO
With base ISOs of 800 and 6400 in Canon Log 2, the C50 maximizes dynamic range. An Auto Selection mode switches intelligently between ISOs to maintain image quality across lighting conditions.
Dual-Pixel CMOS AF II
The updated autofocus system ensures sharp focus even at high frame rates up to 4K120 and 2K150. Deep learning algorithms improve subject tracking with advanced face and eye detection for humans and animals—including birds.
Simultaneous Crop Recording
Quickly generate social-media-ready deliverables with automatic 2K crops in aspect ratios 9:17, 9:16, or 1:1 while shooting 4K.
Dual Card Slots
The camera features both CFexpress Type-B and SD card slots. Raw and primary footage record to CFexpress, while proxies and sub-recordings can be captured simultaneously to SD for efficient workflow management.
Native Vertical Shooting UI
Optimized for vertical content, the C50’s interface reorients menus, touch controls, and display brightness adjustments when shooting vertically.
Detachable Handle Unit
Expand your audio capabilities with the detachable handle, which provides two 3-pin XLR inputs with phantom power, plus integrated controls for low-angle shooting.
Connectivity & Control
The C50 body includes HDMI, headphone out, timecode, 3.5mm mic input, 2.5mm remote, and USB-C ports, plus an intelligent hot shoe for wireless audio. Built-in Wi-Fi supports Canon’s XC Protocol for IP-based remote operation with Canon or third-party control systems. The camera also supports SRT streaming for direct IP broadcast.
Frame.io Camera-to-Cloud Integration
Proxy files are uploaded immediately after recording, enabling remote collaboration without extra processing steps.
Virtual Production Support
The C50 outputs CV Protocol with lens metadata, ensuring smooth integration into virtual production pipelines.
Mirrorless Photo Mode
Switch seamlessly to still photography mode, turning the C50 into a full-frame mirrorless camera. Capture up to 32MP stills or shoot at 40 fps in continuous bursts, with Dual-Pixel CMOS AF II ensuring precision. ISO sensitivity reaches up to 64,000, and shallow depth of field delivers cinematic results even in stills.
