Combining full-frame image quality with a lightweight, portable body, the Canon EOS R8 Mark II Mirrorless Camera is a versatile hybrid camera designed for travel-minded creators. A 24.2 MP CMOS sensor delivers detailed still images and supports 6K-oversampled UHD 4K 60p 10-bit video, while 7.5 stops of in-body image stabilization, enhanced burst shooting, pre-capture, and intelligent autofocus provide the speed and flexibility needed for demanding photo and video work.

High-Speed Electronic Shutter and Pre-Capture

The EOS R8 Mark II is built to capture decisive moments with fast continuous shooting and an integrated pre-capture function.

Pre-capture begins recording images to the camera's buffer when the shutter button is half-pressed. Once the shutter is fully pressed, you can save up to 20 frames captured during the preceding half-second, helping preserve moments that occur just before you press the shutter.

Continuous shooting speeds reach up to 40 fps, with improved buffer capacity compared with the original EOS R8. The camera can capture up to 73 uninterrupted RAW images, representing a 30% increase, or up to 190 JPEG images, a 55% increase.

Intelligent Autofocus

The Register People Priority autofocus function is particularly useful for weddings, lifestyle photography, group portraits, and other situations where a specific person needs to remain the primary focus. After faces are registered in the camera, autofocus can prioritize those individuals over other subjects in the scene, helping maintain focus on a bride, lead model, keynote speaker, or other designated subject.

The advanced Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system provides 100% frame coverage, enabling subject tracking from edge to edge while maintaining sharp focus.

Intelligent subject detection can recognize people, animals, and vehicles during both still photography and video recording. Depending on the selected subject, autofocus can prioritize faces, eyes, driver helmets, and other key features for accurate focusing.

With a low-luminance focusing limit of -7.5 EV, the EOS R8 Mark II can focus accurately in challenging low-light environments such as concerts, clubs, and outdoor night scenes.

7.5 Stops of In-Body Image Stabilization

For handheld photography and video, the EOS R8 Mark II features 5-axis in-body image stabilization designed to reduce the effects of camera shake. When combined with a compatible lens, the IBIS system provides up to 7.5 stops of shake correction at the center and 7 stops at the edges for still images.

This stabilization allows for smoother handheld video and greater flexibility when using slower shutter speeds for long-exposure photography.

Compact Video Powerhouse

The EOS R8 Mark II records 6K-oversampled UHD 4K video at up to 60p with 10-bit color, making it well suited for vlogging, travel content, filmmaking, and everyday video production.

For slow-motion applications, Full HD recording is available at up to 180p, allowing you to emphasize fine details or create dramatic slow-motion sequences. The camera can also produce fast-motion timelapse sequences in-camera without requiring complex post-production.

For advanced color grading, Canon Log 3 is available through Custom Picture mode and provides up to 14 stops of dynamic range. HDR video options, Canon 709, and BT.709 Standard are also available for workflows ranging from advanced grading to straightforward delivery.

A red tally lamp on the subject-facing side of the camera provides a clear visual indication when movie recording is active.

Creative Shooting Modes

The EOS R8 Mark II includes a range of built-in creative modes designed to help photographers achieve distinctive looks directly in-camera, reducing the need for post-processing.

The SCN (Special Scene) setting provides 14 automated presets covering a variety of shooting situations, from studio portraits to handheld night cityscapes.

Positive and Negative Filmtone modes digitally recreate the texture and tonal characteristics of classic positive slide film and negative film, providing a retro, analog-inspired appearance.

The Advanced A+ mode analyzes the scene and applies intelligent bracketing and image processing to produce an optimized final image.

Travel-Friendly Design

The EOS R8 Mark II moves away from the original R8's design with a modern, flat-surface body that provides an ergonomic and easily packable profile.

A newly incorporated multi-controller joystick provides convenient thumb control for adjusting autofocus points and navigating the camera's menus and display.

For traditional eye-level shooting, a bright 2.36-million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder provides a 100% view of the subject and supports refresh rates of up to 120 fps for smooth, detailed viewing.

The large 3.0" 1.62-million-dot vari-angle LCD touchscreen makes it easier to compose from high, low, and other unusual angles. Touch and drag functionality allows you to quickly reposition the autofocus point directly on the screen.

Wired and Wireless Connectivity

The EOS R8 Mark II features a USB-C port for charging and data transfer, a micro-HDMI port for video output, a stereo microphone input, a stereo headphone output, and an E3-type remote port for wired control.

Built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi provide wireless connectivity to compatible smart devices through the Canon Camera Connect app, enabling remote camera control and file transfer. The camera can also receive continuously updated GPS location information from a connected phone, allowing location data to be added to images.

Wi-Fi connectivity also allows the EOS R8 Mark II to function as a video source for multi-camera live-switching setups through integration with Canon Live Switcher Mobile.

Connecting the camera directly to a smartphone or computer through USB-C provides access to Canon Camera Connect app features that are available over Wi-Fi, using a compatible cable. UVC/UAX support also allows the camera to function as a webcam when connected, without requiring additional software.

Multi-Function Shoe
